This chart is an updated version of Barry Robinson's summary of surviving works records, first published in the Club's quarterly journal first printed back in 1974.

( Many thanks to Mike Leatherdale for supplying and updating this original document . )

By clicking on the production years across the top of the production chart, you will be linked to information about yearly changes to motorcycles specific to that production year, including specials and one-offs.

A few machines survive (or have been identified) for which there are no individual surviving works record cards although the club has record cards for the majority of that model.  This includes the Mk1 SV, SS80 JAP, SS100 JAP (including most works racing machines), OHV 680, SS100 Matchless and the 11-50 JAP. Based on the known percentage of surviving machines, this probably represents at least another 100 machines in total. An estimated total of about 3048 motorcycles were produced in total. The records for the cars produced are missing, - however, about 50 each of the 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder cars were made between 1935 and 1939 and 1 each of the 'Meadows' car, the 6 cylinder (S) model and the V-12 model.

The earliest dated works record card is a Mk1 SV that was ex-works on the 16th November 1921 (Frame No. 281). The lowest frame number known is 253 on a Mk1 OHV registered in Sept 1920, -this did not survive. We do not know the number or exact date of the first Brough, but this was probably not sold until early 1920. Even if the very first machine was numbered 250, and if every frame in the first frame number sequence represents a complete Brough Superior, (this sequence seems to have ended around 762), then our estimates for 1920 - 1923 could be several hundred motorcycles light! (or were there deliberate gaps in the numbering sequence?)
