"Titch" Allen's Memorial Service, Mallory Park, Tuesday 18th May. |
As most of you are aware, Founder of the VMCC “Titch" Allen died recently. A Parade and Memorial Service in his memory has been arranged by the VMCC to take place at Mallory Park Circuit east of Leicester and at All Saints Church, Kirkby Mallory, nearby
With his life-long attachment to Broughs it is felt the Club should be represented and a number of Committee members and others are attending.
Everyone is welcome and it is intended to meet at the Travelodge Nuneaton, St Nicholas Park Drive, Nuneaton CV11 6EN* (off the A47 Nuneaton to Leicester road) at 09.30 for the 11 mile drive to Mallory. By meeting beforehand the Brough contingent can ride as a Club and not be lost amongst the hundreds or even thousands of bikes that will attend.
Anyone wanting to go instead directly to Mallory could wait and meet the group’s arrival as close as possible to the Main Race Paddock entrance. My telephone number is 07834 762 330 should you need to contact me.
The day will proceed as follows:
11.15am - Short Address by Steve Allen and assembly for Memorial Parade laps of circuit (machines must be road legal).
11.30am - Memorial Parade for all those attending wishing to take part (exiting at Hairpin Gate for parking near Church).
12.00 noon - Memorial Service at All Saints Church, Church Road, Kirkby Mallory
1.00pm - Re-assemble in Mallory Park Race Paddock for those wishing to stay on
(The Paddock Café will be open all day)
Terry Hobden
*This is NOT the other Travelodge in Nuneaton on the A444 to the south of the town.

Lyle Hall |
It is with deep regret that we learned of the tragic death of Lyle Hall in a road accident on Sunday 21 February 2010 near Lyle and Kathy's winter home in Florida. Lyle, members of his family and the show bike have been a welcome and frequent visitor to the UK and attended many rallies here and overseas. Our thoughts go out to Kathy and the rest of the family.
His funeral in Philadelphia was attended by many friends and relatives and the Club was represented there by Frank and Lu Solano, Howard Wilcox and Terry Hobden

The Tate Brough |
|
The Tate Brough was left to the Club in his Will by the late Mr P Tate of Bristol at the end of 2007. It had been stored under plastic sheets in his garden for around 20 years and the visible parts had suffered accordingly. The Club Committee took the decision shortly afterwards to renovate it to good road-going condition and to devise a loan scheme where some members of the Club could have the use of the bike. Renovation by the Club’s Technical Advisor is finished and the first loan successfully completed in 2009.
Applications to use the machine should be made in writing to the Club’s Hon. Secretary, Terry Hobden, The Road House, Upton Grey, RG25 2RH.. The application should give the Applicant’s motorcycle experience, date of joining the Club and an outline of how they intend to use the machine. On receipt the Secretary will consult with the Club's Committee to select suitable applicants. Applicants will need to have been members of the Club for at least one year and preference will be given to those Members who do NOT currently own a Brough or who have one that is not on the road. For insurance and administrative reasons loans will only be made to Members residing within mainland Great Britain (i.e. England, Scotland and Wales).
Suggested appropriate loan periods are 1 to 2 months, during the period 1 April to 30 October every year. However, the period may be extended at the Committee’s discretion. Attendance at Brough Superior Club meetings is expected and attendance at other meetings (e.g. VMCC) is encouraged. The machine is fitted with a Brough Superior Club badge and the Applicants are expected at all times to present the machine in a manner that will reflect favourably on the Club.
A deposit is required and a contribution expected to Club Funds to help defray maintenance and insurance costs.
The Applicant is responsible for collection and return of the machine and arrangements should be made with Dave Clark (01727 764 637). Dave Clark will give an introduction to the machine, will have photos taken before and after the loan, provide a tool kit, selected spare parts and a Rider Maintenance Manual. An inventory of these will be taken and signed by the Applicant and all unused spares and other items must be returned at the end of the period of loan. The machine will be supplied with a valid MOT and licence disc.
The Club is now actively looking for applications for use in 2010 and beyond. You are asked to commence the process with a letter to me, by no later than the end of 2009. Terry Hobden (Hon. Sec.)

Justin Wand - a message from Heather |
I want to say thanks to the club for the fantastic show of bikes and
club members at Justin's funeral. For their support sympathy and warmth towards me and
the family on such a difficult day that became a wonderful tribute to
Justin. I cannot explain how much it meant to have you all there.
Much appreciated noise and silence.
He would have been utterly thrilled.

Following an amicable negotiation with the Card family, and effective 15th May 2008, we are pleased to announce the purchase of The Brough Superior Engineering Limited, together with the assets of The Brough Superior Engineering Limited. This follows the earlier acquisition of Brough Superior Motorcycles Limited.
The acquisition includes the patents, the intellectual property rights, and the exclusive rights of the trademark and logo, of the historically renowned company.
The transaction is the brainchild of Mark Upham, the manager of British Only Austria GmbH [purveyors of early British motorcycles] and, who has been appointed CEO of the new Brough Superior operation. He takes this opportunity of expressing his thanks to Mr Card for protecting the Brough Superior assets during the period in which he was the official custodian.
